Where Have I Been?

I have missed you all terribly, and will for a couple more days. We are off to New York for my birthday, but I owe you guys a why about where I have been and why.

On couple of Mondays ago, a fast, severe storm blew through our neighborhood. Before I could shut things down, our power failed. It did not come back on until the next afternoon, leading to a really crappy hair day. We soon figured out that the lightning had struck the phone line. We had no dial tone, no modem, and no computer.

I took it to Best Buy for an autopsy and to harvest the useful bits, and knowing I would not have a working phone for at least a week (huge repair backlog) I decided to take my time and really shop for a new computer. I bought my last one quickly and I never bonded with it and I did not want to make that mistake again.

He arrived yesterday. I introduce you to Will Scarlet

Will is a Gateway netbook with a 10 inch screen and is sitting in the lap of my work computer and in front of his 18" monitor. I really like using the extended desktop. I also love that Will runs Windows XP!

I think Will and I will have a long and happy life together.

Pondering

Ever feel like you need to post but have nothing to say?

I'll try anyway.

My life has been so normal lately, no drama, no stress really. Job is good, Tony feels good, the kids are happy, and we're planning two great trips.

At work, I am the first person in my department to get my groups running again. One team will start publishing by the end of the week, another is getting revved up, and the third may be very different but people miss the publication.

Tony has recovered from "the cure" that was killing him. Just hope his condition (hepatitis C) doesn't kick in for about 50 years...

The dogs are all fat and happy, and even brushed!

The trip to New York for my birthday is on. We have tickets to A Steady Rain on Thursday, tickets to the Statue of Liberty crown on Saturday, and we will use  the double decker tourist bus to get around so that Tony can really see the city in two days. Subways are fun and efficient, but you can't see where you've been. Got the hotel and the airline, plan to fill in the time with Central Park and the zoo, Museum of HIstory, and maybe a drag show Friday night.

The trip to Peru in February is shaping up well. Fly to Cusco, spend a few days just soaking up, then to Macchu Picchu for two days with a single night at the Sanctuary Lodge.   Since we were able to use frequent flyer miles to get there, we can afford the one night.  Hey, this is a once in a lifetime trip! We will spend two nights in Lima, hopefully near the beach, but I haven't figured that one out yet.

International Cover Model

Madd

While I was a Dallas Police Officer, I lived next door to this great photographer. He needed a model for this magazine cover so I hooked him up with my partner. That's both of us on the cover, but I'm the one in front.

Taken from Amy--The Jungle Test

You Are Intuitive
You are very sharp and shrewd. You can see the best and worst sides of people.

Right now, you are seeking excitement and a bit of adventure in your life.

You are drawn to people who are philosophical and thoughtful.

You feel like there are a few minor things in your life that need to be changed.

You make a lot of course corrections in your life. Your first reaction is usually not your final verdict.

Darn good thing I didn't have Derby plans today.

Just before post time, the storm blocked our satellite dish so we couldn't watch the race. I hadn't planned to anyway and it's a darn good thing. I just saw the headline "50-1 Long Shot Wins"

Bet it was a great race...

Rain

what symptoms are these?

It started early Monday with a very sore (to the point of tears) throat, congestion, and a body temp that hovered around 97 (not a typo) and went as low as 96.4.  I have the energy of a sea slug and the strength of a sick kitten.  Thinking hurts, I'm wobbly, and my lips are super dry.  I'm going to the doctor tomorrow morning and my temperature is now heading to normal--which probably means I have a fever.

Sorry...just whining. I'm wishing the weird body temp crap would stop.

Over 30 years wearing cosmetics...WTF?

A small thing I know, but twice recently a fairly new mascara lost its tight cap into the screwtop lid, causing the brush to get all gunky and unusable. It's never happened to me before, so why now twice in just a few weeks? One was a Lancome freebie, the other a Great Lash... Makes me very cranky.

What Big Cat Are You?--Oh, this could go so many ways....

You Are a Cougar
You have more strength than most people, and with it, the ability to inflict a lot of harm.
Your power gives you confidence, and you find leading others to be easy.

You believe that you need to the best, and you are very driven to excel.
Most people immediately admire you, but some people feel very envious of your abilities.

I'm sick, I have articles due and I don't speak Gillikinese!

I think I'm sick. I'm so tired I can't hold my head up.

I'm reading Wicked.

In my dreams, I have articles due for the Munchkinland paper, but I don't speak Gillikinese!

That makes no sense on several levels.

I have disappointed the Goat.
